Teacher Lady

Oops. I think I'm going to teach College.

Take a look at this electronic mail of destiny:

Does this mean the "G U" word (Grown Up)? I've been making a concentrated effort to "only buy grown up clothes" for the last few months, reigning in every impulse to purchase a galaxy cat dress or plush full-body onesie with ears, in the event of something like this coming up. I really have been trying.

But London is just so much FUN!
What do I do now?
Do you think my students will respect me?

I think I will require them to bow to me every time they enter and exit the classroom and to address me as "Professor the Dowager Countess Anna Teacher Lady".
Yes, I think that's it.

And I shall be feared.

If I'm not dead by tomorrow...

I'll buy the whole world cupcakes and single-handedly fix Japan and shave my head.

But I will be.
So whatever.

Love, taurine, and two more finals to go,

Oh hey, Friday night

I am spending mine
in the arms of
semi-sweet chocolate chips, Mozart and the Beatles,
and a four-inch spine called
The Norton Anthology of Theory and Criticism
(second edition).

cheers.

Packing...again

I wrote this poem just about a year ago, leaving for college for the first time. And now, a year later, I feel just about the same way. So, I'm reiterating the point.

Packing
"I guess it's time!"
said my childhood playmates
as I laid them in cardboard graves
and wiped a tear from their sightless
plastic eyes.

"Time to grow up",
sighed the clip-on earrings,
the fun old gloves from Grammy's world,
when people still wore hats and time
moved more slowly.

"Knew it must come"
nodded my purple parasol wisely,
the battered remnants of a forgotten
trip to disneyland, my faded cursive name
silently nodding in agreement.

So many pages filled with doodles and dreams,
boxes of days and years,
countless laughs emitting dustily,
but lapsing inevitably into
mournful coughs.

Drawers of memories,
prodigal socks, hair ties, and buttons,
dust accummulation of ages,
annoying but endearing.

Isn't it funny how dust,
on a good day, makes you
sneeze.
But when "it's time," all
it does is make you cry?

You know you'll miss that
dust,
The splattered hot chocolate on the
wall, never quite cleaned up,
the books always on the
shelf, but never quite read.

"Yes, it's time"
gently urges my blankie,
the embodiment of 17 years' worth
of pleasant slumber,
something I can't quite give up and
am relieved that I don't have to.

ROADTRIP!

This weekend was one of the best I've ever had.

Friday three friends and I forsook the gas prices, bought some caffeinated mints, and hit the open road for a little adventure to the westernmost part of the state.

It was so fun.

Kenny and Melissa built a lovenest in the back seat.

Josh tried to drive but I kept taking pictures.

We were
so excited. We accidentally thought we were on our way to Disneyland.

Aaand finally we made it to Seattle. Where we discovered our long-lost brother, Jordan. He's leaving for Brazil for two years. For some odd reason. So we had to go stay with him.

...And Melissa worked her magic on him. Too.

Oh. And me. Actually, I think everyone fell in
love with her at one point on the trip.

And SEATTLE was SO awesome!

We made friends with people on the street and I got to see my childhood sweetheart, Carly.

(Even though we could only seem to take ugly awkward pictures...)

And the ride home was full of much joy. And snuggling of course.

Did I mention I enjoyed myself immensely?

Love, rye chips, and hobos,

Printemps: "Pirates," puppies, and a party of a semester

I can't believe my freshman year of college is over.
But I can't wait to go home for the summer! And even though it snowed on Monday, I'm confident that the sunny, happy weather that can actually coax me out of bed in the morning is here to stay.

Exciting things that have happened recently:
  • Lily Belle Daines, my first and favorite niece
  • Hazel the chocolate lab joining the Bryce/Jenalee/ Anna family

  • "The Pirates of Penzance" at Center Street Musical Theatre, where Jena and I have been having a little too much fun being floozies. It's sooo nice to be on stage again.

  • After 12 or so hours of computer failure and false hope, I finally finished my final broadcast story, and am all set to apply to to the broadcast journalism major here at BYU!
Love, fake hair pieces, and dog hair,
Anna

Carry

I want to carry you
and for you to carry me
the way voices are said to carry over water.

Just this morning on the shore,
I could hear two people talking quietly
in a rowboat on the far side of the lake.

They were talking about fishing,
then one changed the subject,
and, I swear, they began talking about you.

Billy Collins

that's all, folks
